FH Canada has been a proud member of the British Colombia Council for International Cooperation (BCCIC) since 1998. BCCIC is an organization comprised of over forty British Columbian international development organizations committed to achieving sustainable global development.
On September 18, 2009, BCCIC will celebrate its 20th anniversary and will also honour several outstanding British Columbians from across the province who give true meaning to the adage “Think Global, Act Local”. FH Canada submitted a nomination and is pleased to participate in recognizing the extraordinary service of Joe Knockaert.
Joe Knockaert, recently retired, served as Canadian International Development Agency’s (CIDA) Regional Director for BC and the Yukon for 10 years. In addition to being extremely resourceful to many international relief and development organizations and individuals in these regions, Joe has also been a friend to many of us making his job not only professional but personal. His contribution to international cooperation initiatives has been truly priceless.
Passionate about motivating British Columbians to take action to end global poverty, Joe was a networker whenever possible and was referring and introducing CIDA officers, foundations, NGOs, and individuals to each other. He was always willing to share information about CIDA so that NGOs such as FH Canada could access funding to implement projects. Joe always went the extra mile to help NGOs in the application process to be sure all opportunities were being used.
FH Canada is proud to stand by BCCIC in honouring Joe Knockaert and the other exceptional Canadian advocates.
