The third container of CROCS (10,000 pair) shoes have arrived in Burjumbura, Burundi as of Monday, September 28th. The container arrived at port on September 21st but since that day was an official Burundian holiday, the container is just now being unloaded into the FH/Burundi warehouse. The CROCS all arrived in very good condition.
This third shipment of shoes was sent because of a very particular challenge that exists for the people of Burundi: the absence of footwear. Most families do not have extra income for things like shoes so most go about their daily routine barefoot. Cracked and bare feet expose everyone - from children to the elderly - to critical health concerns such as ticks, parasites and infection from open sores. But with a generous donation of CROCS footwear, FH Canada was able to respond to this unique need in Burundi by shipping almost 40,000 pairs of shoes!
Because parasitic infections and intestinal worms can lead to malnutrition, anaemia and slow cognitive development, the Ministry of Health in Burundi carried out a national de-worming campaign this past summer. FH Canada's shipment of shoes will greatly assist them in the long term success of this campaign.
Partnership Opportunity: Three 40 foot containers were necessary to ship the 37,500 pairs of shoes to Burundi! The total cost to ship these three containers was $42,000. To date, we still need $21,500. To partner with FH Canada and help fulfill the shipping costs on this project call 1.800.667.0605.
