A container full of life saving medical equipment and supplies has arrived in Ethiopia. The cargo was delivered to the Nekemte Hospital which serves as the only referral hospital for 1.9 million people living in 17 surrounding districts. Within these districts, the hospital provides inpatient services to 1,800 children under the age of 12 and 3,500 adult each year. There are also approximately 2,638 births annually.
Mr. Tekilu, the hospital administrator, writes: “It is our very recent memory that many patients who deserve admission are lying on dry wooden tables to get their treatment in our hospital corridor which affects the outcome of their treatment because of the lack of beds in the hospital. Therefore the presence of this new medical supply will greatly benefit the health care service to the poor people using our hospital as the single option for their health care provider.
