Families in the state of Chinandega, Nicaragua are celebrating the arrival of a Food for the Hungry shipment containing both Gleaner’s soup mix and life-saving medical supplies.
The container, packed with beds, canes, walkers, syringes and masks among many other supplies, left Saskatoon on September 21st, 2012 and was finally released from customs in early 2013 to the Ministry of Health in Chinandega.
FH Canada's International Medical Equipment Distribution (IMED) has partnered with the local health system in Nicaragua since 2005, furnishing hospitals and medical clinics with medical supplies. Approximately 53,760 children under five years of age and 11,986 pregnant women are directly benefiting from the use of the newly received equipment.
Much joy has been expressed in the increased capacity of local hospital staff to serve their community.
"Thank you for all your efforts involved and the tremendous blessing you are for Nicaragua!"
Also included in the IMED container were packs of dehydrated soup mix in support of the local school meal program. Enabling locals to address the nutritional needs of the most vulnerable families results in many happy smiles and words of thanks to pass around!
