"Before I became a Christian, I was an alcoholic, violent, gambler, and a lying person.
"I always mistreated others. So the devil came into my life. I often got diseases. But after I believed in Jesus, my life and my thoughts were completely changed. I never do what I’ve done before, and the devil has no power on me and my family anymore. Now it’s already four years that I have been a Christian.”
Together with his wife and two daughters Bun Sopheak makes his home in Tropeang Tum Village in the Svay Leu district of Cambodia. He and his wife farm rice paddies and raise chickens, ducks, and water buffalo for a living. Sopheak met Christ through a friendship with Lon, a local pastor. Lon shared the gospel with Sopheak and gave him a Bible. Through reading it, he came to believe in God and committed his life to following him. Now Sopheak is a leader in Way of Hope Church.
Sopheak takes his church responsibilities to heart. He visits church members in their homes to encourage them. He also regularly invites Christians to join together to worship at church.
Life for Sopheak, however, is not without its trials. He endures quite a bit of verbal persecution for his Christian beliefs, but still he perseveres.

Sopheak has a real heart for his community.
Just this year, he facilitated road repairs. With the help of other church members he cut down trees that were blocking the street and filled in the potholes, making it much safer for those who regularly use the road to get to school and market.
Life for Sopheak, however, is not without its trials. He endures quite a bit of verbal persecution for his Christian beliefs, but still he perseveres.
And while some people try to put him down, the village chief’s Buddhist wife defended him, saying “Bun Sopheak and his family have never had a problem with me or others, even though we have different beliefs.”
Sopheak’s vision is to see all his church members have enough food to eat and be thriving participants in their community.

“I ask for prayer that I and my church members are steadfast in love and have a strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and continue worshiping him in all circumstances.”
