With the right growing techniques, vegetation can flourish in Ethiopia. |
Aga Fufa lives in Fayine Tarano, a small agricultural community in the Mid Highlands of Sasiga, Ethiopia. He has seven children—some of whom are grown up and starting their own families, while his younger children are still at home.
Needless to say, Aga's adult life has been consumed with the task and worry of providing food for his large family.
To support Aga in this critical responsibility, FH invited him to attend workshops on fruit and vegetable production, as well as compost preparation. FH also gave Aga vegetable seeds like cabbage, beetroot, and carrots, to help him get started on his own garden.
Aga lost no time in getting right to work. With the new techniques he learned from FH his garden was soon flourishing!
"This is a new life for me! I have never worked a vegetable garden before. My family was not in the habit of eating vegetables, either. But now, my family is eating fresh vegetables daily, and I am selling the rest to earn an income."
“My family harvested cabbage and beetroot that sold for 2100 Birr ($115 CAD). The amount eaten by my family is estimated to be worth more than 1000 Birr ($57 CAD). With this new income, I plan to buy goats so that they can support my family.”
Aga expressed thanks to you, the Canadian supporter, who generously invested in the garden that is growing new life for his family.
